Turning Back to Rainbow

June 7, 2025 9:20pm

Cam is in bed, and as usual, he tries to stall — delaying sleep as long as possible — by calling me into his room to answer a question.

Cam: What are we doing tomorrow?
Me: Gong Gong is coming over in the morning to have breakfast with us. After that, Gong Gong and I are going to Lodi to visit my mama.
Cam: But she’s dead.
Me: Yeah, she is. There’s a special place where we like to remember her and bring flowers.
Cam: When flowers die they just turn brown.
Me: Mmhmm, and they turn back into the earth.
Cam: They… if you water them more, they turn back to rainbow! And they start blooming again.
Me: That’s so special.
Cam: But people, they don’t work like that.
Me: No, they don’t.
Cam: I wish our bodies could do that, like flowers.
Me: Yeah, I wish they could do that too. That would be really special.
Cam: Yeah… but you will die before me. Because you will get 100 before me.
Me: Yeah, definitely.
